"Because it is my name! Because I cannot have another in my life! Because I lie and sign myself to lies! Because I am not worth the dust on the feet of them that hang! How may I live without my name? I have given you my soul; leave me my name!"

Synopsis

The true story of the Salem Witch Trials, The Crucible follows the progression of witchcraft in the small community of Salem, Massachusetts.  Both spiritual and governmental leaders are powerless to reverse the madness that persists as the young women of the town, led by Abigail Williams, submit a handful of persons to the courts to be tried for witchcraft.  However, when Abigail accuses Elizabeth Proctor of witchcraft, John Proctor cannot stand idly by and so condemn his innocent wife to death.  But the foundations of Puritanical Salem prove a mighty force to be reckoned with.
