The Cappies Critics and Awards Program was established in 1999 in Fairfax County, Virginia. Over the last several
years, the Cappies Program has spread across the country and across national borders.
This upcoming year will be the fifth consecutive year that the Cappies Program has taken place within Orange County.
The goal of the Cappies Program is to celebrate high school theater. Each year participating school puts forth
two productions, one play and one musical. Student critics from all other participating schools in the division attend
these performances and write constructive critiques. At least one critique from every performance goes on to be published
in the Orange County Register and its associate newspapers.
At
the end of the year, the student critics from the participating schools have the opportunity to vote for the winners of various
Cappies Awards. The Cappies Awards are then announced and presented to the winners at the Cappies Gala which takes place
at the end of each school year.
This
upcoming year will mark the department's third consecutive year involved with the Cappies. Last year's Cappies show was The
Crucible. The BOHS Drama Department was nominated for the following things:
Choreography - Nicole Chen and Joseph Hill
Featured Actor in a Play - Joseph Hill (Rev. Hale)
Freshman Critic - Britney Slater-Shew
Lead Actress in a Play - Dana Lockwood (Elizabeth Proctor)
Congratulations to Britney on winning Freshman Critic! You
deserve it!
